Interview with Simi Jagtiani, Founder and Creative Director of Savaj Jewels
What drew you to luxury fine jewelry and inspired you to start your own brand?
It all goes back to my family. I come from a lineage of high-end jewelers known for their impeccable standards. I developed a passion for fine jewelry very early in life. I spent much of my childhood visiting my grandfather’s stores in Mumbai and hearing stories of how my mother and aunts competed for the best sales while managing our retail shops in Australia. That family legacy really ignited my desire to build something meaningful in the world of luxury jewelry.
With Savaj, I’ve sought to blend traditional Indian heritage with my international upbringing and experience, aiming to create something truly distinctive. When I began developing the brand, I noticed a lack of contemporary design options in the traditional Indian Polki jewelry market. Despite my deep love and respect for Polki Meenakari and Jadau styles, I realized there weren’t many customizable options available for clients who wanted something more modern while still honoring these traditional techniques.
That gap became our niche. While bridal jewelry remains a core offering at Savaj, we continue to evolve our design language to reflect both heritage and modernity. Our mission is to resonate with a younger, global audience—luxury rooted in tradition, yet reimagined for today. We’re proud to bring our “Craftsman to Customer” ethos to life with every piece.
Did you envision this level of growth for Savaj from the beginning?
Honestly, no. It all started rather spontaneously. Just before the pandemic, I attended a wedding with a friend. We were both struck by how stunning the bride looked—her glow, her confidence, and her exquisite jewelry. It got me thinking: Why shouldn’t every woman feel that radiant and celebrated, especially on her special day? That moment planted the seed for Savaj. I wanted to create jewelry that allowed women to express their style and elevate their beauty through luxury. The warm reception I’ve received from clients and friends around the world has been incredibly motivating and has helped fuel Savaj’s growth.
What makes Savaj stand out in the fine jewelry industry?
I believe our biggest strength lies in our design versatility. At Savaj, we take traditional gemstones like Polki and the meticulous artistry of Meenakari and Jadau, and reinterpret them into luxurious, wearable art that speaks to today’s generation. Our pieces allow clients to express their individuality in a contemporary way while still honoring the beauty of Indian tradition. It’s this fusion of old and new, of heritage and innovation, that truly sets us apart.
