Dr. Tetteh’s 25-year tenure as a U.S. Navy Medical Officer included serving as Ship’s Surgeon and Director of Surgical Services aboard the USS Carl Vinson during Operation Iraqi Freedom and later as a combat trauma surgeon in Afghanistan. His military honors, including two Meritorious Service Medals and the Joint Service Commendation Medal, underscore his exceptional contributions to military medicine. These experiences profoundly shaped his approach to healthcare, blending clinical precision with a deep commitment to saving lives under challenging circumstances.

Leading Organ Transplantation with STAR Teams

One of Dr. Tetteh’s significant contributions to medicine was the creation of the Specialized Thoracic Adapted Recovery (STAR) Teams. Understanding the critical need for efficient organ recovery, he led a team of dedicated surgeons and professionals who revolutionized the process through data-driven approaches and innovative technologies.

Under Dr. Tetteh’s leadership, STAR Teams collaborated with over 25 transplant centers, saving more than 1,200 lives. This pioneering work set new standards in organ transplantation, improved patient outcomes, and significantly reduced transplant centers’ operational costs.
