Laura Mekic is a New York–based makeup artist, licensed esthetician, micropigmentation specialist, and beauty entrepreneur whose work is defined by intention, sensitivity, and a deep respect for skin. Originally from Colombia and now based in New York, Laura brings a multicultural perspective to her artistry, one shaped by movement, adaptation, and a deep appreciation for individuality. Her connection to beauty is rooted not in trends but in the emotional power it holds.
Her approach goes far beyond surface aesthetics. For Laura, makeup is not simply a tool for transformation, but one of revelation, enhancing what already exists with subtlety and purpose. This philosophy is especially evident in her specialization in brows and micropigmentation, where balance, structure, and restraint are often key. She views brows as a fundamental element of expression, focusing on natural enhancement rather than dramatic alteration.
Before fully stepping into the beauty industry, Laura followed a different professional path. Over time, she recognized that creativity and human connection were essential to her sense of fulfillment, ultimately leading her to transition into makeup artistry as a more aligned and meaningful career.
What made you want to become a makeup artist?
Laura: I was drawn to the emotional side of beauty. I saw how makeup could shift the way someone feels about themselves, not by changing who they are, but by revealing confidence. Beauty felt like a language to me, one that communicates without words.
The decision to change careers was intuitive rather than impulsive, an intentional move toward a profession where creativity, empathy, and purpose could coexist.
Why did you switch careers to become a makeup artist?
Laura: I wanted a career where creativity and human connection were central. Makeup allows me to work closely with people, understand them, and create something personal. It gives me a sense of fulfillment I hadn’t experienced before.
With a refined eye shaped by both classic elegance and modern sensibility, Laura creates looks that feel timeless rather than trend-driven. Her aesthetic prioritizes luminous skin, balanced textures, and subtle definition; elements that can remain beautiful regardless of time, age, or context. Influenced by fashion, art, and cultural diversity, she maintains a consistent philosophy: beauty should feel effortless, intentional, and deeply personal.
Professionally trained in New York, Laura has built a career spanning editorial projects, fashion events, and private clientele. Her background as a licensed esthetician and micropigmentation specialist gives her a holistic understanding of skin health, facial structure, and longevity. This dual expertise allows her to approach makeup and brows with precision, honoring the skin rather than concealing it, and creating results that can feel refined and enduring.
What is the most important aspect of being a makeup artist?
Laura: Listening. Understanding the person in front of you, their skin, their features, and how they want to feel. Technique matters, but connection is what makes the work meaningful.
Beyond her professional identity, Laura’s personal journey plays a central role in shaping her artistic vision. She is a mother of three and is married to a Montenegrin partner, experiences that have deeply influenced her discipline, empathy, and resilience. Balancing motherhood, marriage, and entrepreneurship has strengthened her confidence and taught her to trust her intuition.
What is your primary strength as an artist?
Laura: My ability to see beauty clearly and approach it with care. I’m very attentive to detail, but I also work intuitively. I know when to stop, when less is more.
Rather than limiting her ambitions, these layers of life have expanded her perspective. Motherhood encouraged her to believe more deeply in herself and pursue her dreams with clarity and determination, qualities reflected in her thoughtful, measured approach to beauty.
In addition to her work as a makeup artist, esthetician, and micropigmentation specialist, Laura is the founder and CEO of Pura Beauty Boutique, a U.S.-based distributor of a Colombian skincare brand. This entrepreneurial role reinforces her commitment to skin-first beauty, education, and product integrity, bridging artistry and care seamlessly.
Ultimately, Laura Mekic views beauty as a form of quiet strength, understated yet impactful, refined yet deeply human. Through every face she touches, she strives to create beauty that feels timeless, intentional, and emotionally resonant. Creating beauty is where she feels most present and fulfilled, and through that presence, she continues to build a career rooted in trust, purpose, and elegance.
